Nice, in the heart of the Health Europe

Welcome to Nice!
Welcome to the unique adventure of “Challenge For A Nice Life” !

Over the course of the past decade, the French Riviera has gained international recognition in paving the way for the use of global modeling and in launching new promising initiatives in the field of healthcare. With the support of citizens’ resilient capabilities joining forces together with a wide community of contributors such as hospitals, not-for- profit organizations, corporate and business networks, Nice features an array of modeling, ‘in vivo’ experimentation and validation facilities leveraging multiple scientific research platforms, positively impacting the life of our citizens, improving our residents’ living environment and fostering patient centered care. Strategically hosted in care and nursing homes, within the University Hospital or in Alzheimer special care units and even at the “27Delvalle’ connected healthcare building, the acclaimed success of these initiatives led Nice to add its voice to the concert of European Innovation.

Challenge for a Nice Life, is prompted by a collective cultural and philosophical conceptual vision. It embodies a participative mode of operation geared towards open innovation, inspiring everyone to take an active part in the innovation process, thus contributing to generate and launch a range of adapted versatile solutions across advanced fields such as artificial intelligence, “customized” medicine, mobility challenges, prevention and management of chronic diseases.

For each of the players either in our local, national ecosystem, or in international circles this is a unique opportunity to uncover and express one’s talents.

Best wishes to everyone, for your participation to this first edition of the “Challenge For A Nice Life”

The concept

Christian Estrosi, the Major of Nice, the President of Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, has made the issue of Health one of his major priorities.

With respect to this, the City of Nice has directed its efforts towards improving the quality of life of its inhabitants :

  1. Since 2015 has implemented an innovative health policy to address arising health challenges
  2. Incorporated the Health sector into the territorial economic development strategy
  3. Implemented an elaborated offer to coordinate Health services providers to address the following matters:
    • To engage cohorts of beta-testers citizens
    • Create innovation hubs
    • Develop an ecosystem facilitating the deployment of applied innovative solutions

Today the City of Nice intents to take up the first « Challenge for a Nice Life » Initiative.
The Challenge will be launched on the evening of June, 27th, 2018, in parallel with the business Health convention ElwT (European Technological Health Institute) of which the City is a network partner. Locally elected representatives along with key account partners will present their pioneering, cutting-edge or even offbeat visions of the "HEALTH SMART CITY". These proposals will ultimately cover two major issues: well-being and environment.

Territory of Innovation

Since 2008, Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis has transformed itself from a tourism-based economy to an undisputed European Smart City leader. Nice Côte d’Azur then developed these first successes thanks to a strong cooperation with large multinationals but also local companies (IBM, Cisco, Schneider) and with university and research institutes embedded in the local digital ecosystem.

NICE Flagship Demonstration Projects

To be effective, a public policy needs flagship projects and buildings/urban areas, especially when the policy is dealing with new services focused on meeting citizens needs and improving quality of life. Nice Côte d’Azur has developed at 6 major flagship demonstration projects, that are helping implement the three priorities themes, they include:

  • IMREDD: an education and research centre located in the Plaine du Var Eco-Valley area, within the technology park Nice Meridia and neighbours with the CEEI. It is the result of a cooperation between the University and NCA. It represents the first step in developing a smart city campus. Its Smart City Innovation Centre (SCIC) brings together research organisations, universities and companies of the smart city ecosystem. It has notably focused on creating smart transport solutions.
  • Nice Meridia: a mixed use development, hosts the CEEI (city leading incubator), the accelerator ALLIANZ (provides funds and coaching to promising start-ups) and the French Tech delegation (representative body for French start-ups in the world) and several high tech companies.
  • 27 DELVALLE: it is located close to the health campus and is a living lab for health projects. It provides space for training, research, development, exchange, notably with citizens.
  • Centre For Urban Supervision: it provides in real time data to enhance the monitoring of the city.
  • Victims Assistance Centre: it was of great help during the terrorist attack on Promenade des Anglais 14/7/16.
